Meet Katy & Milum
Milum and Katy Perry met while riding a chairlift at Stevens Pass Ski Resort in 2001. They started planting Tildio’s vineyard in Lake Chelan in the spring of 2002. After marriage and three years of nurturing Tildio’s vines together, they began building the winery at the Tildio vineyard overlooking Roses Lake near Manson, Washington. Milum acted as the general contractor and most of the subs while Katy cheered him on. The Tasting room opened in April 2005.
Katy comes from Phinney Ridge in Seattle. After living in Washington DC, studying Geology and interning at the Smithsonian Institute, she decided to go back to school for Enology and Viticulture at UC Davis - that was 1986, and she hasn’t looked back. After working for such luminaries as Robert Mondavi, Stags Leap Wine Cellars, Daryl Groom at Geyser Peak Winery and Chateau Ste Michelle, she was ready to clear her own path with Tildio Winery.
Milum is the son of an Army Engineer who took the family to the wildest corners of the world, from Germany to Greece and Thailand among other places. After graduating from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in economics, Milum focused on a life of outdoor adventure: competitive cycling and kayaking in particular.
A love of Amador Zinfandel (discovered between training rides in the Sierra foothills) provided the spark between cyclist and winemaker on that Stevens Pass lift - the story continues at Tildio Winery.
